Robert C. HUNT

June 23,1947 - June 29, 2024

Robert C. Hunt passed peacefully into the hands of the Lord on June 29, 2024, after battling lung and brain cancer. Bob grew up in Mead, WA, and graduated from Mead Senior High in 1965. In 1966, at the age of 18, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served as a Seabee until November 1969. After two tours in Vietnam, Bob spent the last months of his Naval service in Scotland. He received excellent evaluations from his superiors including a special commendation from the Secretary of the Navy.

After the military, Bob attended Spokane Community College where he studied accounting. He went to work for Pizza Hut and became the Northwest regional manager, traveling between Portland, Spokane and Seattle. Following his time in the Northwest, he became the regional manager in Kansas City, Kansas. When Bob tired of the corporate life, he returned to Mead and worked for Brown's Building Materials for many years. He truly enjoyed his time at Brown's and served in many roles.

Bob is survived by two daughters, Amy Hunt and Angie (Ryan) McKinley. He also has four grandchildren, Kaleo Monk, Kiernan McKinley (Samantha), Darby Shahan (Daniel), and Keely McKinley. Bob is blessed with three great-grandchildren, Huntleigh Rose Shahan, Kenneth James Shahan, Finn Rae McKinley; three sisters, Nancy Walker (Larry), Pat Waller, Colleen (Stan) Woods; and one brother, Richard (Joanie) Hunt. He was preceded in death by his parents, Clayton and Hazel Hunt.

A small graveside service will be held at 10am, on Wednesday, July 3, at Peone Cemetery. One of Bob's favorite charities is St. Jude Children's Research Hospital if friends and family would like to make a donation in his memory.

Bob and I were in a small click of guys from Mead. I lived a mile away. I was the paper boy for Mead for 3 years and saw the big guy a lot over the High School years. He was always good natured and friendly. Remembering a good time...We were all in my old 54 plymouth just squirling around Mead. He was in the back seat holding my spare tire when we went over a railroad track to fast. As we slammed in the other side, He and the tire hit the roof of car. It was a hard knock. And boys will be boys..we just laughed and kidded him for years. Over the many reunions our click always got together. He will be terribly missed.

RIP Robert.  I'll always remember you as a nice guy.  You were very apologetic to me at one time during junior high football practice.  The coach thought playing Leap Frog would be a good exercise for the team one afternoon.  As I was down, you leapt over me landing your right cleated foot on my right thumb.  My thumb has been croocked ever since!  Although slightly askew, it never bothers me.  I endured numerous broken bones in my younger years.  We'll all get straightened out, when we make it up there where you are, on God's team.

I didn't know Robert that well but after reading the touching comments by R Ritchie, Gary and Mary I was moved to reflect on the memories  I did have of him. To me, Robert always came across as a super friendly guy with a gentle presence. I must say, when I get an update from the Mead site it seems to be either for a birthday or a passing. The birthday notices make me smile, the passings reflect. I may only see a few of you at infrequent reunions, but you'll never know the joy the Class of 65 brought to this guy who went to 16 different schools in 8 different states growing up. RIP Robert.
