A major objective I set for myself for this year's reunion was to try and speak with Paul.  Although my aquaintance with him was mostly because of my husband Leith Hagen's friendship with Paul (they were neighbors in the Whitworth Terrace and their mothers were good friends), Paul has always stood out in my memories because of his profound kindness and sincerity.  As our other classmates have said, Paul Kuroiwa was one of the best.  I am so sorry to hear that Paul suffered from such a devastating illness in his too-short life.  Clarice Little McKenney

I remember Paul best from our 6th grade class with Mr Johnson at Whitworth Elementary. Paul was always upbeat and fun to be around. So sad to hear he passed from such a devastating disease. Sandy Roloff

There are never any words that can provide comfort or ease the pain of the loss of  a family member or friend.  My deepest sympathy to you all for the loss of a wonderful man.  I have many wonderful memories of Paul and am sorry that I didn't get to see him again.

I am so sorry to hear of Paul's passing.  He is one I called friend. He took me to a slab dance and drove me around in his GTO. We were in the car accident as well. He fared much better than I! I was hoping that he would make it to this reunion! Fondly, Marilyn Perry Robideaux

I remember the intersection of Francis and Divsion having a drag race with Paul in his GTO.  He must have been beating me because a cop pulled him over and he didn't stop me.

Although we had lost touch over the years, Paul was a true friend at Mead. I ran into him a few years back (20-25?) at the University Village shopping center in Seattle. He was as friendly and upbeat as always. We had so much fun skiing, it’s hard to describe, always challenging ourselves to ski faster and jump higher. Paul, you are missed.

I thought I had posted a comment in memory of Paul (Pixie) some time ago, but when I was going through the list of classmates who have passed on, I saw I hadn't posted it.

I hope in some way, at some time, Paul's family members will review these posts and catch this 'late entry', as Paul was a solid guy, a faithful friend, and smeone I'll always remember.

What I remember best about Paul was his nick-name "Pixie", and how I supposed he got it.  You see Paul was probably only about 150 lbs in football, but he played two of the toughest positions on the team. Quarterback was tough because most of our linemen were 6" taller then Paul (and me), but play it and play it well, did he...

However, it was playing middle linebacker (the guy that is involved in about 1/2 of the tackles in any given game.  That's how I believe he came up with the nick-name "pixie" --- He would be behind all of those big linement, and then come out of nowhere to make the tackle.  The offense didn't see him until it was too late.  Like a "Pixie" he would dis-appear and appear at the appropriate times.

It says alot about a person's fortitude and courage, when they play quarterback and middle linebacker ---- getting beat up at quarterback and then getting in the mix, as perhaps the smallest middle linebacker in the league.  He never complained, and always gave 100%.

I wil never forget his 'grinning' smile.  --- another player has joined Coach Landy Jemes' football team in heaven --- There's just about enough.for a full team now...

In your absence, may God watch over and Bless your family members --- until you can all meet together again .

Thank you Dean. I did not know the the origin of Paul's nickname "Pixie". Oh, those Friday night Mead football games. Those were the days and some of my most favorite memories. Thank  you for your kind words.
