In Memory

Geoff B Moorman

Geoff B Moorman

Done with dementia, Geoffrey Bruce Moorman left this world February 28, 2022, in Portland, Oregon, where he was born 74 years ago to Rodney and Joyce. He attended Beaumont Grade School and Grant High School, moving his junior year to Mead High in Spokane, Wash., where he was honored to receive Merit Scholar status. That achievement resulted in a scholarship to Lewis & Clark College, and through Study Abroad he spent his first semester in Germany. When he came home, he transferred to Eastern Washington State College to pursue his degree in Economics. He returned to Portland for a job at the Bonneville Power Administration. Soon after he met Lauren, his wife of 52 years. Geoff retired from BPA in 2005 and enjoyed time for reading, listening to music (particularly jazz & classical), Shakespeare, good food, good local beer, gardening in good weather, walking the dog, traveling, cycling, recycling, clipping coupons, laughing, loving...

He is survived by Lauren; children Milan (Ofelia), Amy, and Alec (Carly); grandchildren Mitchell & Mason, Hadley & Daphne, and Archie & Dashiell; loving sisters, Nancy and Annie; and an extended family who will miss him very much. We thank all his friends and family for a lifetime of love and laughs. We also thank the unwavering caregivers at Emerson House for making such a difficult time bearable. A private memorial will be held at a later date.

Decades before The Big Lebowski movie, Geoff Moorman was "The Dude". Geoff had class.  Converse sneakers in the snow.  Excellent wrestler.  Wickedly smart.  Best of all Geoff was kind and generous with everyone.  We were both new guys in our junior year and Geoff instantly had a bunch of Mead friends.  It was like he'd been with you all along.  I was a better person when I was with Geoff.  We all were.

It just occurred to me that I haven't written anything about my relationship with Geoff.  Geoff and I were close his entire stay at Mead.  Loved partying at his house when his parents were away.  One time he took in a gal that had run away from home and he ended up asking my folks to let her come and live with us, which she did for about 6 months.  Even after graduation we kept in touch as he was also friends with my first husband, Lon.  When Geoff was going to school at Eastern he would stay with us here and there.  Right after I had Natalie we were visiting in the kitchen and I was getting ready to bathe her in a tub in the sink and asked Geoff to hold her for a minute while I grabbed a towel.  As he was holding her she began to pee.  I'll never forget the look on his face.  It was very funny to me but not so funny to Geoff.  He was pretty cool about it though.  I teased him about that one for some time.  Geoff went to several workshops with the Mayor from the City of Cheney, which was also a good friend of mine when I worked there.  We all enjoyed exchanging stories about one another.  Goeff went through a lot with his dimentia and his wife Lauren was always there for him.  He had found someone very special to share his life with and I couldn't have been happier for him.  To this day Lauren and I play word games with each other and email once in a while.  They were a great couple and I still think of Geoff and look forward to seeing him again in a better place.  Much love to Geoff and his family.
